Towns and cities all across Australia are beginning to connect to the nbn™ network, so we’re celebrating the historic moments, landmarks or features that put each area on the map.

Originally “Campbell-Town”, after the maiden name of Elizabeth Macquarie, wife to former Governor Lachlan Macquarie, this Sydney suburb is establishing itself on the map as a cultural hub; the seat of the Arts Centre, one of the West Tigers NRL stadiums, and the University of Western Sydney.

Home and stomping grounds to some of Australia’s well-known and loved TV personalities and sport stars, including Lisa Wilkinson, Kate Ritchie, Israel Folau and Jarryd Hayne, Campbelltown is a suburb with great community pride.

Officially established by Governer Lachlan Machquarie himself in 1820, Campbelldown has a long history and is fast approaching its 200th birthday. Last time the city ticked over a century was in 1920, which reportedly saw a fantastic eruption of celebration.

After all, not only had the town just hit the big 1-0-0, there was also the still-relatively-recent end of the First World War in 1918 to add a little energy to the festivities.

Next time around its residents hopefully won’t have the end of a world-wide conflict to encourage them to blow off a little steam, but it will still be exciting to see what is in store for the city and its denizens in celebrating its bicentenary.

The city’s history continues to rule the land with notable places such as the State Heritage Registered Post Office, Warby’s Barn and Stables and Dredges Cottage still standing proud.

Campbelltown’s past is still present in many of the buildings that remain today, featuring Victoria, Georgian Colonial and Gothic styled architecture.

From Ingleburn Reserve to Pembroke Park and Koshigaya Park, Campbelltown has plenty to offer for locals who love outdoor activities.

Discover a little piece of paradise at The Basin Waterfalls, Simmo’s Beach Reserve, Cataract Dam and William Howe Reserve where bushwalking, swimming holes, scenic views and picnic activities are must-do things in these hidden gems.

However, it is Campbelltown’s Arts Centre that is the stand out cultural venue, attracting more than 70,000 visitors per year. The Centre includes gallery spaces, workshops, a performance studio and large outdoor amphitheatre.

With so much on offer and now the opportunity to connect to the nbn™ network, it is easy to see why Campbelltown is such a great place to live.
