nbn™ presents: How to connect to a better life

The power of communication has evolved, enabling us to connect to a better life no matter where we are and what we’re doing.

Whether it’s Skyping and keeping in touch with distant family members, to starting and growing a successful online business*, we now have the power to embrace and live the lives we want - and access to fast broadband has an undeniable role to play in making that happen.

We met a group of inspirational Australians from all walks of life who have brought their dreams to fruition. They’ve followed their passions and are now leading a more connected lifestyle, thanks to the nbn™ network.

Here’s a sneak peek into some of their stories:**

Anna and Guido (Guy) Dessman

Guido (Guy) and Anna are proud grandparents, who’ve been married for 47 years and are still very much in love. By being connected to fast internet over the nbn™ network, they can keep and in touch with family and friends all over Australia and across the world. While their daughter and her children live with them, their son and three of their grandchildren live interstate in Adelaide. Now, they don’t have to miss out on the little moments that distance would previously place between them. "It’s a wonderful thing, the internet” says Anna. Guy echoes, "You can connect on demand. We take a picture and send it to the grandchildren or to my son... and it's instant!”*

Laleh Mohmedi

After posting a picture of her son Jacob’s spelt pancakes shaped as a lion, young mum and self-made entrepreneur, Laleh, became an instant Instagram sensation, even catching the eye of Jamie Oliver!

Since starting her website and Instagram page, ‘Jacobs Food Diaries’ she was able to quit her job as a medical researcher and pursue her passion of healthy food art full-time. Laleh is excited for the nbn™ network. Talking about what it means to her, she says, “My business is all through the internet. If it wasn’t for social media, I wouldn’t have been able to turn my passion into a business.”

Tim Arnold

South Australian citrus farmer, Tim, is now able to access new and emerging markets online since being connected to services over the nbn™ network.

He can trade fresh produce from his farm to people all over world, or water his crops with the click of a mouse from interstate, making him a more efficient farmer and a more available Dad.

He’s excited to harness the capabilities of fast broadband via the nbn™ network to help his farm grow into the future, and have a legacy to leave for his kids.*

Faezeh Parkes

Faezeh is an inspirational teacher who lives and breathes the notion that growing old doesn’t mean slowing down.

Full of life and positivity, Faezeh has in recent years found new vigor in starting a modeling career at age 62. She is harnessing services over the nbn™ network to spread the word about causes close to her heart, help people less fortunate, connect to friends all over the world, and to try and keep up with her internet-obsessed son!*

Her life mantra is, “Don’t look at the end. Go with the journey."

Brendan Archer

Coming out online via his YouTube channel changed vlogger (video blogger) Brendan’s life for the better. Through vlogging, he is able to connect with the LGBTQI community all over the world, sharing his coming out experience, and also help others who are struggling with their own journey.

Prior to having a service over the nbn™ uploading vlogs would take hours. He would normally have to sit up all night to watch them upload. All that has changed since connecting to the nbn™ network. This motivates him to share more content and be more active online in the LGBTQI community. His advice to those struggling with their sexuality is, “Trust in yourself. Be who you are, don’t let anyone else change that.”

*Your experience including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network depends on the technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside our control like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal quality and how your service provider designs its network.
