nbn exists to provide access to fast broadband to homes and businesses across Australia. The nbn™ broadband access network connects with phone and internet providers’ domestic transmission networks and international networks to provide access to fast broadband.
The Government’s Statement of Expectations states that the Government expects nbn to give access to peak wholesale download speeds of at least 25Mbps^ (megabits per second) to all premises, and at least 50Mbps^ peak wholesale download speeds to 90 per cent of the Fixed Line network. This ambition of universal connectivity is unique to Australia given its expansive geography and population.
nbn, together with phone and internet providers is helping the nation to unleash its full digital potential with fast broadband. It will help Australia to become a more connected, more competitive and more innovative nation.
nbn, in conjunction with phone and internet providers, is helping bridge the digital divide between city and country; young and old; and Australia and the rest of the world. The rollout of the nbn™ access network is one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Australia’s history, covering even the most remote and inaccessible areas of Australia.
