Our commitment to gender balance means that we actively focus on ensuring that all our people have a fair go at reaching their career aspirations. We are committed to ensuring that any obstacles that may exist for women are minimised so all employees can have the opportunity to thrive. We take the importance of increasing the participation of women in the workforce seriously. We continue to have a strong focus on increasing female representation across the business, with specific targets at senior management levels, supported by organisation-wide initiatives including:
“It’s really important that we have an environment at nbn where an individual feels they can bring their whole self to work. You should never have to be a different person at work than you are on the weekend.”
Peter Ryan, Chief Network Engineering Officer, and Gender Diversity Sponsor.
Our approach to flexible work conditions, equal pay, opportunities for development and advancement and the provision of meaningful work makes nbn a great place to work for all our people.
We value our differences and we celebrate, engage and embrace all the forms of diversity that we are lucky to have in our workplace. We encourage employees to connect with each other respectfully through any similarities or differences they may feel strongly about – cultural background, LGBTI, religious beliefs, personal interests and passions.
We’re proud to have created our Reconciliation Action Plan 2016 – 2018 with Reconciliation Australia, which will be key in continuing to incorporate the appropriate recognition and respect of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture into how we operate. By building strong relationships with Australia’s First Nations people and communities, we aim to ensure that the nbn™ network makes a positive contribution to the lives and communities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
As outlined by our CEO Bill Morrow:
“Our vision for reconciliation is to connect communities across Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people share equal access in the benefits of the nbn™ network”.
At nbn, we are committed to accessibility for everyone. We strive to create an inclusive workplace with access to the physical resources and support to enable employees with disabilities to contribute. We’re currently partnered with the National Disability Recruitment Coordinator to identify appropriate opportunities for roles to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities, and continually update our disability policy to ensure it is aligned to best practice and industry standards.
