nbn – the company building and operating Australia’s broadband network – has announced plans to launch one of the fastest Fixed Wireless broadband services in the world. The new 100/40Mbps wholesale speed tier* plans are scheduled for release to retailers in early 2018 on the company's Fixed Wireless technology.

Delivering the new nbn™ 100 product for regional Fixed Wireless end users follows the gamut of upgrade paths and new technologies nbn is pursuing in the fixed-line space.

The nbn™ Fixed Wireless network already delivers retailers access to peak wholesale speeds of up to 50/20Mbps* to nearly 500,000 premises across regional Australia. Today, close to 170,000 regional premises are already connected to these services.

The company announced it would utilise new Carrier Aggregation technology to increase the bandwidth and overall capacity of the nbn™ Fixed Wireless network to deliver the new nbn™ 100 product.

End-users who order a plan based on the new nbn™ 100 product would be provided a new Wireless Network Termination Device that nbn has developed with its Fixed Wireless technology partner, Ericsson, along with NetComm Wireless and Qualcomm.

nbn has announced this new, ultra-fast Fixed Wireless nbn™ 100 speed tier in response to demand in regional Australia where Fixed Wireless services are available or planned.

This wholesale speed tier will allow nbn Retail Service Providers to offer plans to regional homes and businesses that may not have previously enjoyed access to ultra-fast broadband.

Consultation for this product is planned to commence in April 2017 during which time details such as pricing and installation procedures will be developed.

nbn Chief Executive Officer, Bill Morrow said:

“The nbn™ Fixed Wireless network is a genuine world leader. It’s really exciting to be launching this game changing product for our Fixed Wireless customers across rural and regional Australia.

“This is just one more example of nbn’s flexibility to introduce technology advancements without slowing down the rollout. It fits neatly into the upgrade path for Fixed Wireless and ensures we meet our commitment to provide a network for the future regardless of technology.

“We’re building this network for today and will ensure that it delivers tomorrow and in the future” said Mr Morrow.

Today, services over the nbn™ network Fixed Wireless technology are available to 482,246 premises, with 168,184 premises already connected to services.

* We’re designing the nbn™ network to provide these speeds to our wholesale customers, telephone and internet service providers.  Your experience including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn™ network depends on technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside our control like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans, signal reception and how your service provider designs its network.
